Doordarshan’s free direct-to-home (DTH) platform Freedish has cancelled the 37th e-auction scheduled for 22 August due to administrative issues.

The pubcaster had issued an ad on 12 August informing broadcasters about the e-auction of non-news slots on 22 August. It has advised broadcasters to track the DD website for further information on the status of the e-auction.

The DTH platform had sold 11 slots in its 36th e-auction, which included three news and 11 non-news slots for a record Rs 85.1 crore.
The channels that had won the slots included Zee News, Zee Hindustan and News18 India in the news category, and Star Utsav, Zee Anmol, Rishtey, B4U Music, Bhojpuri Cinema and Housefull Movies in the non-news category. Star Utsav was the highest bidder with a bid the size of Rs 8.4 crore.
Additionally, Star India had won two additional slots. It has used one slot to launch FTA sports channel Star Sports First while the second slot is likely to be used for its Hindi GEC Star Bharat, which is slated to launch on 28 August. Star Bharat will replace Life OK, which is being discontinued.
Freedish’s 22-million subscriber base is growing rapidly in the hinterland due to the availability of good content.
